Have you ever wondered who invented singing? The earliest human composer
didn’t invent it because singing has been going on in heaven since eternity past. Angels couldn’t have invented it. They’ve been around
forever, and they do, indeed, worship God all the time. Because they were created by God. God must have enabled them to sing. Obviously, God
invented singing. He was the first singer, and there’s nothing to prove that He ever stopped!
We know God rejoices because of Psalms 104:31 (rejoice means to be full of glee) and Isaiah 62:5 (means to “make mirth”). The Amplified of
that verse says: “…and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.”
HOW DOES GOD SING AND REJOICE?
I doubt that God sounds like He does in the movies—what I call Ten Commandments, burning bush
baritone. And I doubt that He sings in Elizabethan English. But, the Bible says His voice is loud and powerful (see Psalm 29:3-7). God sings
loudly and with all His heart--with gusto! The Spirit-Filled Life Bible says in a footnote from Zephaniah 3:17 that: “His satisfaction with
His people will be expressed through loud, demonstrative singing.”
In Jeremiah 32:41, the word rejoice speaks of joy. The Spirit-Filled Life Bible says that: “It contains the suggestion of ‘dancing for joy’
or ‘leaping for joy’, since the verb originally meant ‘to spin around with intense motion…God dances for joy…because of His people. The
righteous Messiah shall rejoice…with an intensity that the psalmist cannot find words to describe.”
Can you picture God dancing and singing in heaven? I don’t believe He is limited to any particular style of music either—He just keeps it
pure. I also believe that when we get to heaven, we will hear some styles of music that we’ve never even dreamed of!
Jeremiah 32:41 speaks of Him rejoicing over us, but
let’s look at Zephaniah 3:17 in some different translations and versions:
New Living Translation: “For the Lord your God has arrived to live among you. He is a mighty savior. He will rejoice over you with great
gladness. With His love, He will calm all your fears. He will exult over you by singing a happy song.”
Living Bible: “For the Lord your God has arrived to live among you. He is a mighty Savior. He will give you victory. He will rejoice over
you in great gladness; He will love you and not accuse you. Is that a joyous choir I hear? No, it is the Lord Himself exulting over you, in
happy song.”
And my personal favorite version of this verse, the Revised Standard:
“The Lord, your God, is in your midst, a warrior who gives victory; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will renew you with His love;
He will exult over you with loud singing.”
God rejoices because of you and I! And when He sings over us, it is loud!
WHAT EXACTLY DOES GOD SING? What words does He use?
He doesn’t sing praises to Himself (like we sing to Him) because He’s not on an ego trip. I believe He sings love songs over us about just
how much He loves His children. He also sings His Word, His covenant promises, over us. One meaning of the word “singing” used in Zephaniah
was “proclamation”. God proclaims awesome things over our lives when He sings.
When I asked God what He sings, He showed me that when He sings, what comes out is just what we see in Genesis when He created the world.
God spoke, and it was so. When He sings, He sings Words of faith. When he sings, blessings come out. He sings blessings into our lives!
Giving is God’s way of life because He is love and He gives without measure. So, His songs are songs of joyful blessing over the lives the
children that have brought Him joy! (see Psalm 84:11) And, since all of heaven hears His singing, including the angels and, since the angels
respond to and act on His Word, the angels begin to bring those things about in our lives!
God asked me one time, and you can ask this of yourself also: Is my life making God sing?
WHAT MAKES GOD SING?
Some things would be:
THE FINAL WORD: Let your life be one that causes God to sing and you will see His blessings poured out into your life as He sings over YOU!
