Biographical Sketch

Bob Long

 

           Bob Long was born in Bastrop, TX in 1943.  He graduated from Bastrop High School and immediately entered Texas A&M University in 1962.  He married his high school sweetheart, Sue, the fall of 1962.  He received his degree in Economics and was commissioned as a 2nd LT in the U.S. Army in 1966, and spent 12 years in the Army achieving the rank of Major.  Bob received numerous decorations while serving foreign tours in Europe, Central America, and Viet Nam. 

            Bob left active military service for full time ministry in 1972.  His ministry included establishing churches in Oklahoma, Texas, and Mexico.  He taught in Grace Bible Institute in Austin, TX and worked in Christian education in the Bastrop and Austin areas.  He currently pastors and travels in the ministry while promoting righteousness in government and the business community.  Bob serves on several ministry, civic and corporate boards.  Bob and his wife, Sue, are presently in a two-year term as Presidents of World Ministry Fellowship, an international ministry of ministers and churches, where they have served for 35 years.  Bob is a police chaplain with the Bastrop Police Department and has been Chaplain of the Republican Party of Texas since 2000.  Pastor Long recently completed a two-year program in the College of Pastoral Leaders at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. 

            Bob and Sue have been married for 45 years.  They have three children: Rebekah Long Herrick, Robert K. Long, Jr., Joshua B. Long and 8 grandchildren.  Bob and his family enjoy operating a small ranching business in Bastrop County.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Biographical Sketch

Sue Long

 

           Sue Long was born in Colorado Springs, CO in 1944. Her father was in the Army and she moved several times, attending many different schools. She graduated from Bastrop High School in the Spring of 1962 and married  Bob Long in the Fall of that year.

            Sue had attended a business school and worked as a secretary while Bob was at Texas A&M. He graduated from A&M in 1966 and they moved to Germany with the U.S. Army.  When Bob left the Army to go into full time ministry, Sue became more active in ministry as well. After moving to Bastrop, TX she also became involved in politics and held several offices in the local Republican Party as well as President of the Republican Women.  

            Sue has been very involved with her children’s education. She volunteered at the public school where their two older children attended and then helped with a Christian school that was part of the church in Bastrop.

            Their third child was born in 1979 and she home-schooled him through 9th grade. At that point he went to a Christian school in Austin and Sue served on the School Board for 4 years and was very active as a “team Mom.” She is now assisting in the home schooling of their 12 year old grandson. 

            Several years were spent as a caregiver to Bob’s parents and her parents. In 2000 she began volunteering at a medical clinic for the uninsured and under insured and served on that board as vice-president for 6 years. Sue continues to serve as Volunteer Coordinator and works one night a week.  

            Sue is chair of a sub-committee on Health Care for the Opportunity Bastrop Committee formed by Bastrop County officials to advise them in matters of responsible growth. 

            Sue is a small business owner and partner with Bob in Long Interests.     

            Sue has been involved in music ministry and taught Bible studies and ministered to young women and teenagers for over 35 years. 

            Bob and Sue have been married for 45 years and have 3 children: Rebekah, Bobby and Joshua. They have 8 grandchildren.
